One of the bloodiest battles in the Civil War.

A few numbers to think about from the Battle of Gettysburg:

The total number of soldiers was about 163,000:
75,000 from the Confederate Army and 88,000 from the Union Army.

The approxamate casualties from the Confederate Army were 28,000 and 23,000 from the Union Army.

This means that almost 1/3 of the people who entered the battlefield died.

This is equivalent to 65% of the people in Southfiled, MI dying, or 2.5 times the population of birmingham, MI dying.

Out of the 15,000 people in Pickett's Charge, only 10,000 people survived. That was over 1/8 of Lee's Army.

In addition, approxamately 4 commanders were killed in the Union Army and 5 commanders were killed in the Confederate Army for a total of 9. This is one of the highest numbers lost in a single battle in the entire Civil War.

After the battle was over, it is estimated that a total of 569 tons of ammunition was expended. This is the equivalent to about 227 H3 Hummers.

Now, maybe that gives you a different perspective of the Battle of Gettysburg.
